Atrocity-free Tech? Lysverket launches a (beta) Whitelist

Today’s atrocities are tech atrocities. From Facebook’s impact on the genocide in Myanmar to Israel running its genocidal campaign in Gaza on systems supported by some of the biggest names in the sector, tech is implicated in crimes arising from war and repression. But we all use the same tech. This is unacceptable. But is it unavoidable? Is there no atrocity-free tech? Sure there is. We sat down and came up with a list, a ‘whitelist’ to be precise. Investigating war crimes using digital evidence

This workshop with the investigative journalist Lina Attalah and human rights investigator (and Lysverket network member) Robin Taylor discussed the best practices for digital investigation and how they can be incorporated in investigating war crimes today. Topics included verification of social media content, using satellite images and other investigative methods. The workshop was held in partnership with the Masahat Festival.
